Torqway Hybrid: The Nordic Riding Vehicle for Physical Exercise

An Innovative Solution for Maintaining Good Condition and Physical Independence

The Torqway Hybrid was born out of the original concept created by the Polish startup company Torqway. The goal was to develop a mechanical mobility device that could be enhanced with electric power. Zbigniew Dubiel took on the task of designing the external look of the more advanced Torqway Hybrid, focusing on creating a vehicle that exudes sophistication and harmony with the user.

One of the standout features of the Torqway Hybrid is its Nordic Riding functionality. This vehicle is specifically designed to support mature individuals in maintaining good physical condition and independence. By activating all muscle groups without putting strain on joints, the Torqway Hybrid offers exercises that are up to 20% more effective than walking.

The Torqway Hybrid is constructed using Polyamide 66 molds technology, with important parts reinforced by aluminum structures. The propulsion system consists of compact yet high-torque engines powered by a dedicated power supply designed exclusively for the Torqway Hybrid.

With a weight of less than 40kg and dimensions of 1217mm in height, 654mm in width, and 708mm in length, the Torqway Hybrid is compact and lightweight, making it easy to maneuver and transport.

Operating the Torqway Hybrid is simple and intuitive. Users drive the vehicle using their arms and turn using their heels. The balance required during the ride engages the torso muscles, providing a full-body workout experience.

The Torqway Hybrid project started in the fall of 2017 and the design/styling was approved in the spring of 2018. Currently in the pre-production stage, the project was developed in Torun, Poland, with the design stage taking place in Derby, UK.

Zbigniew Dubiel's design for the Torqway Hybrid was inspired by the visual connection between the user and the vehicle. By drawing inspiration from nature and premium everyday products, Dubiel aimed to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional surface that enhances the overall experience of riding the Torqway Hybrid.

The Torqway Hybrid has received recognition for its exceptional design. In 2019, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Sporting Goods, Fitness, and Recreation Equipment Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges the Torqway Hybrid's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.
